For Immediate release

A City of Expression 2010 Holiday Festival of Lighthouses
After almost 20 years, the arts organization A City of Expression (ACOE) is reforming to sponsor the ACOE Holiday Festival of Lighthouses, a sculpture project to honor Maddie Clifton of Jacksonville. This festival is trying to be displayed in the Main Library in Jacksonville, FL. Sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for the Wolfson Children’s Hospital at the end of the event. Dates hoped for are Nov. 15-Jan 2. Then the art will be split into smaller groups and travel the greater Jacksonville area for a few months until everyone has a chance to see each lighthouse.
Greater Jacksonville sculptors are asked to participate with as many 10’ tall lighthouse interpretations as possible to form a forest of sculptures. Local sculptors are asked to seek funding for their lighthouses from their favorite hangouts. It is probable that businesses would be honored to help with this memorial/fundraiser.
The idea is to group all lighthouse interpretations together in the Main Library from November 15-January 2, then split into groups of 10-15 that would travel to all areas of greater Jacksonville including Brunswick and Gainesville. Rotation will occur so everyone has the chance to see all lighthouses. Bids can be made at any time, with bidding closed on April Fool’s Day.
Lighthouses should be 10’ tall and constructed very durable in 2 parts pieced together so breakdown and reassembly are easy. Some typical lighthouses are expected, but it’s the sculptor’s interpretations that will make this interesting. Alien-looking lighthouses are welcomed.
A City of Expression was formed in the early 1990s and sponsored iD Magazine as well as numerous arts events in Jacksonville’s arts district. Two Explosion of the Arts street festivals, several music festivals, and even a sidewalk chalk art fest for children were sponsored. The group was successful and disbanded for an unknown reason in 1992, as quickly as ACOE formed.
The rebirth has been planned for a very long time and if things go as planned, there will be a global network of ACOE chapters that publish local editions of iD Arts Magazines and sponsor lots of local arts events. Details can be found on Mother iD (www.idmagazine.cc), iD Arts Magazine Jacksonville (www.idmagazinejax.com), numerous MySpace blogs and on the Facebook A City of Expression page. Unfortunately, all must be viewed to get the entire big picture -- the formation of a global arts culture that is totally organized to fight for world unity and world peace.
Please email, call, or befriend on Facebook or MySpace to join the efforts of A City of Expression.

For more information, please contact Mark Gebhardt of Jacksonville at frstrtr@comcast.net or at 904-874-8832.
