This department is responsible for the overall marketing of the station and local production. The intern will have the opportunity to be involved in writing voice-over promotion spots, producing station I.D’s, screening and logging video, coordinating talent appearances, distributing publicity materials and preparing a weekly promotion schedule. Interns will learn how production and promotion “shoots” occur and how equipment and props are selected. He/she may also be involved with public events sponsored by the station that are actually running during any particular internship. Students have a chance to learn the evolution of creative concept. Interns will also have the opportunity to become educated in the various areas of production including the control room, videotape operations, studios, editing suites, and special projects. The internship offers valuable experience in organizational and “people” skills as well as the need for flexibility in a department where constant changes are the “name of the game”. Interns may have the chance to learn how public affairs special programs (shows, telethons) and public service announcements are produced. They will see our many community outreach efforts and be educated in as many of the various departments and duties in the television station as possible.
