They have an apprenticeship program (they don’t call it an internship program anymore) which is geared towards the bakery or the meat departments. They do offer tuition reimbursement. To apply for an apprenticeship, the student or grad is required to:

• Contact by phone or in person the manager of the bakery or meat department at the Publix that they want to work at. Jobs are not listed online (there would be too many to list) and you can’t apply online (here’s why: http://www.publix.com/careers/Stores/NonManagement/HowToApplyInStores.do).

• Once the student determines whether there is a position in the bakery or meat department, the student needs to apply in the store. Nothing can be done until the student applies in the store. There aren’t always positions open at every store, so the student is advised to call the department managers at each store in their area to find out what is open.

• Once the student applies in the store, notify Career Services immediately by email (and attach a copy of resume). Career Services will then send your resume directly to the corporate division so that you get special consideration. But this cannot be done until the previous steps have been completed. Students can also email their resumes to Allan Romano, at allan.romano@publix.com, but ONLY after the previous steps have been followed. If you email Allan directly, be sure to tell him that you are a culinary student here and have already applied at the store. Make sure he knows which store and which position you have applied for.

Mr. Romano has offered to come and speak to our students and see the school sometime in May or June, so I will arrange that. Keep an eye out for more info!
